Gold Royal Tudor Beasts Yale of Beaufort Coin - 1/4 oz

The British Gold Royal Tudor Beasts Yale of Beaufort 1/4 oz gold coin is produced by The Royal Mint in the United Kingdom. Each coin contains 1/4 troy ounce of .9999 fine gold and carries a legal tender face value of £25. Struck to The Royal Mint's bullion standard, the coin combines investment-grade gold with a design inspired by Britain's Tudor royal heritage.

The Royal Tudor Beasts Collection was introduced by The Royal Mint in collaboration with Historic Royal Palaces and is inspired by the ten heraldic beasts that line the Moat Bridge at Hampton Court Palace. These stone guardians represent the royal ancestry and dynastic union of King Henry VIII and his third wife, Jane Seymour, and were originally intended as powerful symbols of Tudor lineage and legitimacy.

The 2023 Yale of Beaufort was the second release in The Royal Tudor Beasts bullion coin series, following the Lion of England. The Yale is a mythical heraldic beast traditionally depicted with a goat or antelope-like body, the tusks of a boar, a lion's tail and large horns capable of swivelling in different directions. The Yale became associated with the powerful Beaufort family and was used by Henry VIII among his Royal Beasts to emphasise his family's Beaufort ancestry and strengthen the legitimacy of the Tudor dynasty.

The reverse was designed by British artist David Lawrence and depicts the mythical Yale of Beaufort, inspired by the stone beast that stands on the Moat Bridge at Hampton Court Palace. The original stone Yale supports a shield bearing the Coat of Augmentation granted by Henry VIII to Jane Seymour, reinforcing her status as Queen Consort and symbolising the union of the Tudor and Seymour families. The Yale also carries associations with the title of Somerset, later held by Jane Seymour's brother Edward Seymour.

The reverse also incorporates a chain mail surface animation background texture, providing the bullion coin with an additional visual security feature while complementing the medieval and heraldic character of the design. The Royal Mint specifically identifies this chainmail surface animation as an additional security feature.

The obverse features Jody Clark's fifth definitive coinage portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, together with the coin's £25 face value. The Yale of Beaufort was among the earlier releases in The Royal Tudor Beasts bullion collection to carry the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, before subsequent releases transitioned to the official coinage portrait of King Charles III.
